WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is a mind-body exercise system built to improve physical fitness in people of all ages and athletic backgrounds. It is named after its German-born creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed this system of exercise in England during World War I. He was inspired to invent this practice and equipment in order to help his fellow prisoners of war regain strength, mobility and overall health. After much success, Pilates’ practice became very famous in the dance community for it’s ability to prevent injury, improve mobility, and build long, lean muscles for the stage.

At Personal Pilates Detroit we follow the STOTT Pilates Method, which is a modern take on the traditional Pilates practice. Developed by physical therapists and sports medicine professionals, it is the safest and most effective form available.

WHY SHOULD I DO PERSONAL PILATES TRAINING?

Group Pilates classes can be intimidating. Personal Pilates training is a great way to get comfortable with the practice without feeling self-conscious. Because of this small studio model, clients can take advantage of some of the most competitive rates and best equipment in Detroit without sacrificing quality of instruction.

No two bodies are the same. The list of possible postural imbalances is a long one, and the list of ways to correct those imbalances is even longer. Not to mention everyone’s fitness goals aren’t the same. With personal Pilates training, our instructors can create a detailed workout specifically for you to help you get closer to your fitness goals with each session.

Do you have any injuries or chronic pain? Just going to a group class is not always conducive with these issues. At Personal Pilates Detroit, we can modify and shape your workout to avoid injured areas, build up the musculoskeletal system to help prevent/recover from injuries, and correct any imbalances that are causing you chronic pain.

Lastly, Pilates can be challenging physically AND mentally. It’s not like other workouts and that’s what makes it so effective. You have our undivided attention and our instructors have your back - creating a unique workout for you, making sure your form is correct and pushing you to achieve more than you thought you ever could.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE PILATES?

Pilates is like an other skill that you’re trying to build - practice makes perfect. If you were trying to learn a language, would you only study it for one hour a week? Probably not.

It’s recommended that you practice Pilates 2-3 times a week for optimum results. To quote Joseph Pilates, “In 10 sessions you will feel better, in 20 you will look better, and in 30 you will have a whole new body.” Each session does not need to be private to count, though. In the beginning, 2-3 privates a week is recommended. Once you feel comfortable, your second and third sessions can be a group class, or even an at home mat workout from our Instagram page.
